Tamara’s author journey began when she was two years old and her mother, Vivian took her to work at a local pre-school. Tamara immediately fell in love with books and as her mother says, began reading right away. Vivian was an avid reader; Harlequin Romance novels, and Ebony, Jet, Essence, and Bronze Thrills magazines were mainstays in the Pray household. While they oftentimes had content that was too mature for the young reader, they were her first introduction to print media with images that reflected her beautiful, ebony skin and kinky hair. Tamara absolutely loved reading and looked forward to the monthly subscription, as they were a direct contrast to the reading books in school and the chapter books she read from the local library. Reading eventually led to a love for poetry and writing short stories. Tamara has been writing professionally for 16 years. She is an author; ghostwriter, and poet. She is committed to providing quality stories featuring beautiful, diverse characters of color, because she knows first hand that positive representation matters. She is the author of two books, co-author of one and contributor to an anthology. In her spare time, Tamara enjoys mentoring, writing poetry, assisting writers on their author journeys, and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family & friends circle.
